The larger your commercial cleaning service becomes the more critical the task of training employees to work efficiently and effectively to provide the very best cleaning service in a universal way.
Microfiber has become an industry standard but few companies truly committ to the costs associate with a full color coded microfiber system. Color coding is essential in preventing cross contamination within a facility and once a cleaning team is properly trained on the system they can provide a better service resulting in a healthier workplace for all. Because there is high personell turnover in the janitorial industry, it is imperative that all workers receive the same training and supervision in order to provide optimum service.
By making sure you have a color coded system, all of your staff will be working to prevent cross contamination by using different color cleaning products when cleaning specific areas. An example of this would be that a cleaner would never use the same color mirofiber rag cleaning a restroom area as they would cleaning a common area or an area where food preparation would take place.
Although there is no official designation for color coding here in the United States, there are general trends that have developed over the past few years. The important factor is training and consistency so the cleaning team is aware of the process and properly trained.
Blue – Used in lower risk area such as common areas and for general all purpose cleaning such as mirrors or glass
Green – Used where food preparation will be done
Yellow – Used for cleaning objects and surfaces in rooms and lower risk areas of restrooms including sinks
Red – Used in areas with a higher risk of cross contamination and the spread of infection. This would include restroom areas such as toilets and urinals.
