In recent years, there has been a steep rise in the number of companies offering mold cleaning and remediation services. TV and radio ads now try to sell you mold remediation services several times a day. This exposure may have passed the point of raising awareness of the mold problem, and may actually now be desensitizing the people that feel inundated by the many companies vying for their dollars.
Mold is a Potential Hazard
Exposure to mold is not a problem for everybody. Indeed, there are people that are not sensitive to mold. Unfortunately, not everybody is immune to the effects of mold exposure. Many people do experience symptoms from exposure to mold, and the Institute of Medicine has found sufficient evidence to link indoor exposure to mold with symptoms in the upper respiratory tract. Damp indoor environments are also linked to upper respiratory symptoms; this should come as no surprise given that the environment that fosters mold is linked to the presence of the same respiratory symptoms as mold itself. Mold can be present out of sight, but still produce mold spores that affect people. Some symptoms that people in damp indoor environments may want to be on the lookout for include general upper respiratory irregularities, cough, and wheezing. People with asthma are particularly susceptible to mold exposure, as it may exacerbate asthma symptoms.
Mold Remediation Isn’t Just another Product
The ubiquitous ads may seem to have reduced mold cleaning and remediation to just another service that a person can purchase. There is more to this kind of work than a company name and a price quote. Mold remediation services are as varied as the companies that provide them. So, if you do find yourself in the position of needing to choose a provider for this kind of work, do your homework and find the best solution instead of shopping based only on the price. The best option isn’t necessarily the cheapest or the most expensive option.
Choose Wisely
There are many options for you when deciding which service to employ, but you should find the one that will best meet your needs. You want to find a service that is well-regarded by its customers, as well as a service that can work within your budget. The internet makes it much easier to check up on your prospective provider, so take some time to check up on the people that you have in mind. Choose wisely, and remember that you are making a choice that may affect the health of your family or your business.
