Polished Concrete…A Perfect Solution

Polished concrete is popular with commercial buildings because of the ease of maintenance and because recent technology is making it easier and less costly to install. A polished concrete floor has a glossy, mirror-like finish. Polishing concrete is very similar to sanding wood. Heavy polishing machines are used to gradually grind down surfaces to whatever shine or smoothness is desired. The polishing process begins when your contractor uses specialized equipment to remove minor pits, stains and blemishes from the concrete. This usually requires three or four steps to initially grind down concrete.

The next step involves crews using ever finer grits of polishing disks until the floor has the desired sheen. Some contractors finish off the flooring with a commercial polishing compound to give the floor more sheen.
